She has two small boys, Max and Finn, and they are tiny balls of costume-wearing, fart-joke-telling, video-game-loving energy (visit to see what I mean). The photographer: What I love about Erin is her calm demeanor. Her turnaround time for editing was the fastest of any photographer I’ve ever worked with too. We took individual photos of each child because I had sent her a Pinterest idea I wanted to knock off and it turned out exactly as I had hoped! We got one-on-one photos (which never happens with three kids) and we had zero…I repeat…zero freak-outs! I left the shoot confident that she captured some incredible moments and classic smiles and even some goofy expressions. The experience: The next hour was filled with posed and action shots, some smiles, some giggles, some laughter, and many breaks, sprints around the park, bags of fruit snacks and freedom. And, simply upon seeing her, I uncrossed my fingers and just knew we were in the best of hands. When we got there, we were waved down by a cute gal in a grey v-neck and straw hat with what looked like a hundred pounds of camera equipment hanging from her body. I crossed my fingers and toes as we stressfully headed to the park to meet Erin. Kids were tired from school, hot from their long sleeves and “itchy from their buttons” (what!?). The preview: The night of our photo shoot, as Nate and I were dressing our kids and combing their hair in a Baja Sol bathroom (no lie, you guys – we were just so hungry), it became evident to me that this might be the least smooth photo shoot that’s ever taken place in the history of the universe.

This year, our photos were captured by my friend Erin VonRuden with Hello Photo Photography – and I seriously couldn’t be happier with the end result. I credit that to finding fantastically talented, family-oriented photographers. Pretty much as normal as it gets.īut capturing moments in time with beautiful snapshots of my growing kiddos is so important to me that I put my family through professional photo shoots annually. Shoot? Does it scrunch up with anxiety because it’s foreshadowing the meltdowns, crossed arms, scowls and fights that will surely break out in that one moment you need your children to just sit and smile? If so, you’re normal.
